Cyprus

Today, after a battle of 100 and more days, of which the last 20 were a hunger strike, all 12 families of refugees protesting against racist bureaucracy which unduly delayed their legitimate demands for citizenship under the law of the Cyprus Government, received a written commitment from the Director General of the Ministry of Interior that will finally proceed with calling them for an interview as required by the process. The written commitment of the Ministry allows the refugees to end the hunger strike.

YKP Statement on privatisation of water In the northern part of Cyprus, we have reached a very critical point regarding the privatisation of water… YKP is against the privatisation of water like it has been since December 2010 when it was first declared that the water would be privatised. The agreed upon text infiltrated the press and when it is examined we can see that it includes very heavy provisions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSTYDuvz1v4 Starting with a march from Lokmacı/Ledra street and arriving at Selimiye Square, the 6th Anti-militarist Peace Operation Concert was a celebration of the year-long struggle against the militarisation of the Cypriot society, gathering hundreds of activists from all over the island, and beyond. The artistic programme included a spectacular dance performance by Studio 21, songs by young musician Koralp, a conscientious objection statement, a round of poem recitals (Brecht, Hikmet, Galeano, and with Halil Karapaşaoğlu and Gürgenç Kormazel reciting their own work), and of course the emblematic Bandista from Istanbul with their highly political music that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Anti-Militarist Peace Operation movement since its inception. https://www.
