YKP Statement on privatisation of water In the northern part of Cyprus, we have reached a very critical point regarding the privatisation of water… YKP is against the privatisation of water like it has been since December 2010 when it was first declared that the water would be privatised. The agreed upon text infiltrated the press and when it is examined we can see that it includes very heavy provisions.

Panos Kammenos, Greece's new Minister of Defence is touring Cyprus in his first diplomatic visit to the island. Kammenos is the leader of ANEL (Independent Greeks), a small anti-austerity splinter of the right-wing New Democracy party, and it is SYRIZA's junior coalition partner in the government they formed less than two weeks ago.

Reading the daily press as we do, we were surprised to see that our MPs are currently arguing over the price of the new, biometric national IDs. About the price, yes. It's only glossed over that those ID cards are going to be biometric.

In northern Cyprus there are countless people who are condemned to live in difficult conditions because of the compulsory military service.As one of 13 people that announced their conscientious objection, Haluk is being prosecuted for not accepting preparations of war, animosities and unquestioned authority.

On the occasion of the first Prides (one in the North and one in the South) in Cyprus, we want to share our reflections on matters relating to the acknowledgement of the right to agency that every person should have over their own body, sexuality, and gender identity. As a vegetarian, the recent debate on halal meat was making me feel uncomfortable but I could not explain why. One would have thought that I would welcome those arguing about a ban of halal meat because of its apparent more barbaric / less animal welfare approach to slaughtering.
