In a society where all different categories of people must fit into boxes so that capitalism can sell them customized products we proudly remain queers. Queers are constantly under surveillance because they don’t fit into binaries, they deviate from the norms, because their very existence disrupts the patriarchal system; therefore they must be disciplined, they must be punished Last Saturday, starting at 16:30 from Nicosia's Faneromeni Square, the 1st Queer Street Party —a radical initiative of groups and activists from all over the island and abroad— reclaimed both the streets of gentrified Nicosia Old Town and the Pride Parade.

Our statement on the demilitarisation of Nicosia, as  faq: The auspices of militarism and nationalism are nothing strange to our everyday lives. We encounter the waving flags as we drive past a school, a church, roundabouts, mountains, to the remnants of a military post stationed in the middle of the old town centre of Nicosia.

1. Year begins with strikes in Limassol Port Workers for Greek subcontractor construction company VIOTEK went on a lengthy strike after the company made it clear they will not honour contracts and collective agreements binding the sector.

An event was called today on 20th of December  by United Cyprus - Bicommunal Peace Initiative in Ledra St/Lokmaci buffer zone demanding a resumption of the reunification talks which had previously broke down after the Greek Cypriot representatives left following Turkey's continious presence in Cyprus' EEZ.  The participants expressed their desire for a reunified Cyprus and peace on the island.

In a parallel march starting from Eletherias Square in south and Kuğulu Park in north, protesters chanted in solidarity to the imprisoned Haluk Selam Tufanlı and conscientious objectors worldwide. It was part of a global action day announced last week, with simultaneous protests taking place in London, Istanbul and Athens.

Today, we were on streets for Alexis who was murdered by Greek State and for Nikos Romanos who has been on hunger strike for 26 days against the repression of the same state. Today, we were on streets for our sisters and brothers who have been murdered while resisting in Greece, in Ferguson, in Mexico, in Kobanê.

Thousands protested in the streets of Nicosia this Mayday on both sides of the capital. All marches ended at a joint gathering in Ledra Palace (UN controlled) Buffer-Zone. Last time this happened was 56 years ago, due to the division of the island.
