Queers are constantly under surveillance because they don’t fit into binaries, they deviate from the norms, because their very existence disrupts the patriarchal system; therefore they must be disciplined, they must be punished Last Saturday, starting at 16:30 from Nicosia's Faneromeni Square, the 1st Queer Street Party —a radical initiative of groups and activists from all over the island and abroad— reclaimed both the streets of gentrified Nicosia Old Town and the Pride Parade.

An event was called today on 20th of December by United Cyprus - Bicommunal Peace Initiative in Ledra St/Lokmaci buffer zone demanding a resumption of the reunification talks which had previously broke down after the Greek Cypriot representatives left following Turkey's continious presence in Cyprus' EEZ. The participants expressed their desire for a reunified Cyprus and peace on the island.

Thousands protested in the streets of Nicosia this Mayday on both sides of the capital. All marches ended at a joint gathering in Ledra Palace (UN controlled) Buffer-Zone. Last time this happened was 56 years ago, due to the division of the island.
